SRP Council District 6 Candidates

Meet John & Sara

Your neighbors. Your advocates. A team running together to bring real accountability to SRP.

Our Story

Why We're Running

We moved to Arizona in 2020. Both of us had visited and lived here separately before—John during his Army years, Sara while pursuing her art—and we both fell in love with the desert. When we finally had the chance to settle down together, Arizona was the obvious choice.

We met later in life and have been together for over a decade. We're a team in everything we do—and this campaign is no different.

Shortly after moving here, we decided to go solar. Arizona averages over 300 sunny days a year. It seemed like a no-brainer. But what should have been straightforward turned into a frustrating, expensive ordeal.

The process was slow. The paperwork was endless. And when we finally got our system installed, we discovered just how hostile SRP's rate structures are toward solar customers. Fees, demand charges, unfavorable buyback rates—it felt like the utility was actively discouraging clean energy adoption in one of the sunniest places on Earth.

That's when we started asking questions. And the more we learned about how SRP operates—the lack of external oversight, the 1903 voting system that excludes most ratepayers, the cozy relationships with large industrial users—the more we realized someone needed to do something about it.

So we decided to run. Together.

Candidate

John Travise

John served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Army for over a decade, including multiple deployments to Iraq. As an NCO, he was responsible for the training, welfare, and leadership of soldiers under his command—learning firsthand that real leadership means accountability, not just authority.

In the Army, John learned that the people at the top don't always have the answers—and that sometimes the most important thing a leader can do is listen to the people on the ground. He learned to ask hard questions, demand real answers, and never accept "that's just how it's done" as an explanation.

After his military service, John transitioned into cybersecurity, where he continues to protect critical systems and infrastructure. His technical background gives him a unique perspective on energy infrastructure, grid security, and the importance of modernizing our power systems.

John is running because he believes District 6 ratepayers deserve board members who actually answer to them—not to utility executives or large industrial users.

Sara Travise

Sara is a ceramic artist and cybersecurity professional—a combination that might seem unusual, but reflects how she approaches every problem: with both creativity and precision.

Working with clay taught Sara patience and the importance of process. You can't rush ceramics. Every piece requires careful attention, and sometimes the best results come from knowing when to step back and let things take their course. But when something isn't working, you also have to be willing to start over.

Her cybersecurity work taught her something different: how to find vulnerabilities in systems that look solid on the surface. How to ask the questions nobody else is asking. How to see patterns that others miss.

When Sara looks at SRP, she sees an organization that's been operating the same way for over a century—and a system with vulnerabilities that insiders have learned to exploit. Large industrial users get favorable rates. Solar customers get penalized. And regular ratepayers have almost no say in how any of it works.

Sara is running because she believes consumers deserve a real voice at SRP—and she's ready to fight for it.

Why We're Running as a Team

SRP Council has three seats representing District 6. That's not an accident—it's how meaningful change happens. One voice can be ignored. Two voices can be outvoted. But when multiple board members start asking the same hard questions, demanding the same answers, pushing for the same reforms? That's when things start to shift.

We're not just running together because we're married. We're running together because we believe District 6 needs a coordinated effort to actually change how SRP operates. We'll show up to every meeting prepared. We'll back each other up. And we'll make sure ratepayer concerns aren't just heard—they're acted on.

John and Sara are a team at home. They're a team in this campaign. And if elected, they'll be a team fighting for you.

Our Priorities

What We'll Fight For

Affordable Rates

Fight rate structures that burden families. Question every rate increase. Demand transparency in how costs are allocated.

Solar Access

End punitive policies that discourage solar adoption. Arizona should lead in clean energy, not lag behind.

Real Accountability

Ask the questions incumbents won't ask. Demand answers that utility executives don't want to give. Represent ratepayers, not special interests.
